Hello our blog followers These days our team was really busy but now we have a lot to tell you Here in Yerevan everything is really amazing. Already all the delegations are in Armenia. Macedonia was the first to arrive. All the representatives are happy . Kids are excited and everybody is waiting for December 3 but in the same time everyone wants this week to last long because they enjoy each moment having here in Yerevan . Delegations had time for sightseeing as well. Some of them expressed their impression and mentioned that they like Yerevan very much .

As for the stage it is already ready. It really beautiful and all the contestants yesterday had their first rehearsals . Today contestants from Russia , Latvia , Moldova , Armenia, Bulgaria , Lithuania and Ukraine had their second rehearsal . They were amazing and they are already ready for the contest. Today special guests Sirusho and Vladimir Arzumanyan also had rehearsal. So, keep patience ! Only few days are left for the show it is going to be great show , Don’t miss it and follow us !

Amanda is the representative of Latvia in Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011 . She is 14 years old girl from city Aluksne. Today I had a really pleasant conversation with her, which I'd like to share with you- my dear readers.

? How did you feel when you knew you'd represent your country?

! It was my old dream. And when my mama had a phone call from LTV about my participation in JESC, I wanted to scream so excited I was. I was really happy.

? Where do you study ??

! I study at Ernst Gluck Aluksne State gymnasium.

? Have you seen the pre-selection of other countries?

! Oh, yeah I have watched all songs.

? And which you like the most?

! I really like Belgium song it is different and cute, and moldova's song.

? Do you have a fan page or official page?

! actually, i don`t have any fan pages, but i have a facebook and twitter.

     Luara Hayrapetyan born on 29 September 1997 is an Armenian singer who represented her country at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Kiev, Ukraine with the song "Barcelona", finishing in joint second place.
     Luara has won many prestigious awards like the International Contest 'Small Asterisks' (Volgograd, Russia); In 2007, Grand Prix Winner of the All-Russia Contest ' Constellations of Volga ' (Samara, Russia); the I Prize Winner of the VI All-Russia Contest ' XXI Century Voices' (Anapa, Russia);In 2008, Grand Prix Winner of Junior section of prestigious Slavyanski Bazar in Vitebsk and winner of special prize "Lira" (Belarus); In 2009 qualified for the international final of "New Wave Junior" contest (Moscow, Russia).
She has been participating in a number of contests and festivals since 5-year-old period, represented Russia and Armenia. Year 2004 I Prize Winner of the International Contest "Malen'kie Zvezdochki" (Tuapse, All-Russian Children Center "Orlenok") Year 2005 I Prize Winner of the International Festival "Childhood Without Borders" (Moscow, Russia) November 2006 etc. Since 2005 Astrakhan Regional Government granted the scholarship for the achievements in the fields of art and creativity. Luara has already recorded 4 albums: "Pochemuchka", "Krasnaya Shapochka", "Sokhrani" and "Shokoladka". There are several music videos that she managed to release. Luara has managed to take part in the National Selections for the Junior Eurovision Song Contests in Russia (year 2006, II place), and Armenia (year 2008, III place).
Luara dreams to become a Jazz Singer and her music idols are Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Lisa Minelli. Her favorite school subjects are Physical Training, Math, Russian language and History. She also plays big tennis and swims in the pool during the time of leisure. Luara's favorite animals are horses and she dreams to have one. She also likes travelling, learning new things in foreign countries and she has already done it to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, and Malta.
        Luara's favorite quote is Mark Twain's "When in doubt tell the truth" ("Following the Equator") and her favorite book is "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". Luara and her brother are huge football fans, playing football on the grass in the yard with their friends. During the Manchester United vs Barcelona game their whole family jumped up shouting "Goal, Barcelona!" and this became the main plot for her song.
Luara currently lives and studies music in Russia.

Armenia in JESC 2008

13 years old Monica Manucharova represented Armenia in JESC 2008 in Cyprus. She is from Gyumri, Armenia . Monica studied in Robert Mkheyan’s group. She was selected by public via massage voting and jury.

Monika Manucharova was selected in top ten group but generally 200 applications were received. JESC 2008 took place on 22 November. That year Azerbaijan also took part in the competition. Her song's name was "Im yergi hnchyune" which means "The sound of my song". She wrote the music for her song herself and the author of the words was her friend Mary Mnjoyan .
Monica with 59 points took the eighth place. She was the second to perform. The winner of the contest became Georgia ...

Armenia in JESC 2007

      "Junior Eurovision" is very important project. In 2007 Armenia debuted in the competition. As main candidates Armenia considered children from "Arevik" band: they were 12 years old, they wrote own songs (according to the rules of competition authors should be also children). Band consisted of 6 children - two vocalists (and songwriters), others performed backing vocals. They had written nearly 6 songs. It was much easier to work with these children than with adults.
      They were used to sing live, they danced, jumped around the stage and at the same time had no vocal problems as they had already some professional training. They had already seen a world, used to long journeys, they were learning Enlgish, knew how behave themselves, how to smile and speak with mass-media and listeners. These modern, European children open "door to Europe". The band was already known in Europe and in America: they could almost be considered professionals, and it was much better that Armenia would be represented for the first time by children who wouldn't be afraid of public and responsibility. They were used to pressure. Contest held in December in the Netherlands.
   They represented Armenia with a song " Yerazanq" which means dream, and with 136 point took the second place

Today's meeting differs from others . In this meeting participants were not only the fans of JESC but also Dalita's classmates and some guests from the ministries . Time passed really fast , because pupils made a really exciting show . And one important event took place too. There was a question and the one who answered to it won a ticket for the show. And that lucky one was Andranik Shirinyan- a biiiiiiiiig fan of JESC! Congratulations! :)

Europe little time left for Junior Eurovision 2011 . In the capital of Armenia in Yerevan on every step you can see JESC advertisements , posters and also cars and buses. All the counties chose their singers. And all of them are ready to sing on December 3 but ,of course, there are some secrets about their performances as well as the stage design.

Also few days ago a traditional Heads of Delegations meeting was held ,during which the running order draw was held. So, the final running order was revealed, you can see it below :

Another good news is that tickets are on sale. The tickets for Dress Rehearsal that will be on the 2^nd of December cost between 2.000-15.000 drams(AMD)/10-30 euros/.The tickets for the final show that as you know will be on 3^rd of December at 19:30 CET (22:30 local time) cost between 5.000-75.000 drams (10-148 euros).
The next good news is that Junior Eurovision 2012 will be held in The Netherlands.

And today the representative of Armenia- Dalita had a meeting with pupils from French school N119, which took place at the same school. The little singer was not alone , she came with her dancers .The pupils made great preparations and welcomed the guests with great pleasure. Children asked all the questions to Dalita ,which were interesting for them, and Dalita responded to all of them. She also sang a little part of the song “Welcome To Armenia”.In the end children took pictures together with Dalita. Both Dalita and pupils enjoyed the meeting .

      Emma Asatryan helped me, she's my teacher.
       2. Did you see the pre-selections of other countries?
   I've seen only Russian and Ukrainian pre-selections.
       3. Do you have accounts in social nets?
   Yes, of course . I have accounts in Facebook etc. and also I have my own web page.

I think it'll be ready after JESC.

    It is really responsible step for me to host so many countries in Armenia, and to represent it too.
7. Would you like to represent Armenia in another country?
No. I like representing my country in my country.
8. What will be changed on December 3?
    I think the show will be improved, but the dancers will be the same. Perhaps the dresses will be changed    a bit. But anyway everything will be in the same style
9. Which song of previews participants do you like?
      For me Vladimir Arzumanyan-Mama, is one of the bests.
10. Do you have any plans till JESC?
      No, but I think new plans will be after it.
11. Have you already started working ??
     Not yet, as my teacher is not in Armenia now. As soon as she come back, we'll start working.
12. Which singer do you like ?
      I like Miley Cyrus .
13. What kind of music do you like?
      My teacher advised me to listen every kind of music . Now I'm concentrated on pop music, but I have classic basis.
14. When did you start singing?
      I was nearly five when I started singing and as I liked it I continued singing.
15. Can you play any musical instrument?
      Yes, I can play piano and guitar.

16. How can we find your songs?
      Well, as I don't have many songs, I don't have any CD, but you can find my songs in different collections and even in YouTube.
17. Would you like to take part in Eurovision song contest after growing up?
      Why not? Of course, if I have such a chance I'll take part.
18. How you imagine Yerevan during that days, I mean during the contest?
      I think our city will be colorful and bright on that days.
19. Can you combine you classes with song contest?
      Actually it is really hard to do so, as since the pre-selection I didn't manage to go to school, but I think I'll go since Monday as I don't want to miss my classes.
20. What do you wish children all over the world?
      I wish them to smile and to be happy, healthy and all the best.

On the 17^th of September the Armenian national selection of Junior Eurovision 2011 was held . The hosts were the Head of Armenian Delegation Gohar Gasparyan and the winner of Junior Eurovision 2010 Vladimir Arzumanyan.

The show was amazing. The all 16 contestants were nice but also exited. Everyone enjoyed the show. Finally in the end was known who will represent Armenia this year. The lucky little JESC star was DALITA with the song "Welcome To Armenia". Also I am going to mention that Aremanian national selection was a holiday for us, fans, too because during the show was the premiere of our second film Yerevan: the city of colors . Finally Armenia decided who'll represent Armenia in JESC 2011.

On September 17, during Armenian National Selection of Junior Eurovision 2011, during which 16 songs were presented live on Armenian First Channel. The voting procedure was done traditionally by the Jury and the viewers. And Dalita will represent Armenia in JESC 2011 in Yerevan with the song “Welcome to Armenia”.

Besides, one more important event was on September 17. I think You guessed what I'm speaking about. During National Selection of Junior Eurovision 2011 was the premiere of the film Yerevan: The city of colors made by JESC 2011 volunteers' group. This is the second film made by them. Not only volunteers made it but also friends of the group. And as a administrator of this blog I'd like to thank all friends of out team for support and help all this time!

Today some news about JESC 2011 found it's place in the internet. It is said in the articles that one more participant may join JESC 2011 , but representatives do not share any information with public.
The work is going to be harder in September and the design of the stage in Hamalir will be known. And the most important news-the name of the representative from Armenia, which will be known in September too. Some people say that our representative will be the group "Razmik and friends"

one of the most important meetings of JESCers

Today's weather was awful . But it didn't stop our "JESCers" to have a meeting. The reason was our guest -Gohar Gasparyan.

During the meeting many questions were discussed and the volunteers shared their ideas with her. The meeting passed happy, productive and full of fun, because many bright ideas where heard and the volunteers really worked good. We also had the opportunity to ask questions about the preparatory works for the Junior Eurovision 2011!! And I'm sure the show is going to be amazing.

Of course after this meeting too many thing are going to be done, but I think most of all many surprises will be waiting you in the nearest future!

In the end I'd like to open the secret of success of our team-It's the unity and friendly atmosphere

BULGARIA, WELCOME TO JESC 2011!!!

        The Bulgarian National Television has already confirmed Bulgaria’s participation in JESC 2011. BNT has reached the final decision about participating in the 2011 edition of the contest and all the rules of the national preselection have been announced immediately after Bulgaria’s official confirmation!
        Now the number of participating countries has reached 13 and ,as u see,it is going to be an interesting show! All countries are on their ways to Yerevan and we carefully follow all the news which refers to JESC 2011!!!!
      Soooo……… Bulgaria is the 13th country!!! Is there any other country which is going to join JESC 2011?!??! That’s not exact yet though we are not going to lose our hope!

Last day of shooting the film

      The shooting of the film Yerevan: The city of colours is over and soon you'll be able to see it. I'm sure that the film will have a great success, because of our team's hard work and because of original and perfect ideas.
         Despite the hard work done by our group we didn't lose our hope and we were sure that the outcome would be AWESOME! The area, where the shootings took place, was crowded and everyone tried to help ! Some of volunteers were painting the logo,the others were helping to make children's outfits,SOME OF US were just having fun! the day was difficult but we did our best and now we are sure that the second film will be better and Europe will like it! :)
        After a few days of work the team came to the finish line . In this case I must say that words are odd and I'll describe the last and the most important day of shooting by photos made by our volunteers. Thanks to everyone for support and help!

Premiere of the film Yerevan:The city of colours.

Dear readers if you remember, I've mentioned once, that one surprise is coming soon. Well, it's time to tell a little about it. Our group is now working hard on a new video called Yerevan: city of colours. It's premiere will be soon and I'm sure you'll like it, because our team's hard work and positiveness .

Today volunteers of our team had a meeting, during which we were preparing all needed things for the video. Our active team tried to colour our old, but always beautiful city-Yerevan! Even the hot didn't stop them to finish their mission.

By the way special thanks to May Manukyan , Lilit Manukyan , Ani Shahoyan , Andranik Shirinyan , Armen Avagyan , Tolik Chernyaev ,Tat'Ok Gyulmisaryan , Tatev Soghoyan fot all the hard but beautiful work and mainly thanks to Karen Khontyan. for organizing all this and shooting.

! I was born in Minsk. I studied in Art Lyceum( PARNAT) . Then in Academy of Arts in Belarus, the Department of Graphic Design. My hobbies are photography and billiards.

? Have You been working on logos long time?
!   Yes, more than 10 years. my studio is specialized on it.

? What do You know about Armenia?
!   I knew as much as in school program, but during working on the style of Eurovision, I find a lot of interesting information about the culture and the history of Armenia.

? What do You think about Armenians and Armenia?
!    Very friendly and hospitable nation.

?   What inspired You during creating the logo of JESC 2011?

!   It's difficult to answer...Brandy)

?    For a work such as creating logos, one needs to study some aspects of the country. In the case of Junior Eurovision, which will be in Armenia, what you have learned about Armenia to complete the job?
!      The history, national emblems and national culture.

? Could You please, tell us about the logo?
!    If I need to tell about the logo, that means that it is not complied. In our case you can see Ararat + graphic equalizer-combination of national emblem and music symbol. And plus the color of participating countries.

?   What do You think, will the Junior Eurovision be the best in Armenia?
!   Of course! Everything that is new must be better.

?   Have You ever been in Armenia? If no, do You have plans to visit Armenia?
!     Unfortunately I haven't been. Yes, I have such plans.

?    Do You like Junior Eurovision?
!    Yes, In my opinion the children's contest is more bright and sincere, straightforward numbers.

The way of JESC's arenas since 2003 untill our days!

In 2003, the first junior eurovision took place in Denmark, Copenhagen, Forum Copenhagen (or Forum København). This is a large, rentable faire building, which hosts a large variety of concerts, markets and exhibitions, among other things. The venue can hold 10,000 people.

In 2004, the second fantastic show, a favorite for all children, was in Norway, Lillehammer, Håkons Hall, sometimes anglicized as Håkon Hall and Haakons Hall. With a spectator capacity of 11,500 people, it is the largest handball and ice hockey venue in the country. Håkons Hall is regularly used for handball and ice hockey tournaments, concerts, exhibitions, conferences and banquets. Håkons Hall hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004 on 20 November 2004, won by María Isabel with "Antes Muerta que Sencilla".

We reached the third stage by year 2005. This is Ethias Arena! Arena is located in Hasselt, Belgium. The arena opened in 2004 and holds up to 21,600 people. The Ethias Arena is a part of the Grenslandhallen and has a surface of 13,600 square meters (44,619 square feet).

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was the fourth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for young singers aged 8 to 15. On 2 December 2006, the contest was broadcast live from Bucharest, Romania making it the second time the contest had been held in a capital city. The contest was held in Sala Polivalentă. It is frequently used for concerts, indoor sports such as tennis, gymnastics, dance, handball, volleyball, weightlifting, judo, boxing, mixed martial arts and professional wrestling. The hall was opened in 1974 but was recently renovated. It has a maximum seating capacity of 12,000 for concerts and 6,000 for handball.

In 2007, had our debut! The debut of Armenia! It was held in the Ahoy' indoor sporting arena in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on 8 December. The capacity of the arena is 15,000.
Cyprus was the host of Junior Eurovision 2008, which is the world's largest song contest for children.The Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center (Limassol) also known as Palais des sports is the biggest and the most imposing multi dynamic indoor athletic arena in Cyprus. It is named after the late president of Cyprus Spyros Kyprianou.

The Kiev Palace of Sports is situated in the center of Kiev, Ukraine, on the right bank of the Dnieper River. In 2005, it hosted the Eurovision Song Contest, which required the facilities to be brought up to the standard, required by the European Broadcasting Union. Also, the 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in the venue.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was the eighth edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest and took place in Minsk, Belarus. It was held on 20 November 2010 The contest was won by Vladimir Arzumanyan of Armenia with the song Mama. This gave Armenia its first Junior Eurovision victory and its first victory in any Eurovision contest. The Minsk-Arena Complex is unique in its complexity and functionality not only in Belarus but also in Europe. It includes a multi-sports and entertainment arena for 15,000 spectators (making it the largest arena in use by a Kontinental Hockey League team), a skating stadium for up to 3,000 spectators and a velodrome at 2,000 spectators.

And finally! We reached the main! The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will be the ninth edition of the contest, and will take place in Yerevan, Armenia at the recently renovated Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex. Officially Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex (Armenian: Կարեն Դեմիրճյանի անվան Մարզահամերգային Համալիր), also known as Demirchyan Arena, Sports & Music Complex, or simply Hamalir (for complex in Armenian), is a huge sports and concert complex located on Tsitsernakaberd hill which dominates over the western parts of Yerevan, near the Hrazdan River gorge. The complex consists of two big halls; the concert hall and the sports hall, in addition to the Hayastan conferences hall designated for political summits with a huge space which gives the facility to organize fairs and exhibitions. Today was a press conference with the organizers of JESC 2011 in Armenia. Grigor Nazaryan, JESC producer , told the press that, there are several candidates for place of JESC 2011 announcers, for example Garik Martirosyan. He mentioned that it'll be clear who's going to be announcer in near future. It was also mentioned that nearly 500 participants will come from abroad.

The all girl sweet group "Candy" will represent Georgia in JESC 2011, in Yerevan . The girls won the national final with the uptempo and retro dance song, Candy Music.

The vocals and choreography were interesting . They were dressed in blue and yellow jump suits.

I've already told you about our country-Armenia! And now's the time to tell you about it's capital-Yerevan, which is also the largest city of Armenia and one of the world's oldest continuously-inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia.

The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. After World War I, Yerevan became the capital of the Democratic Republic of Armenia as thousands of survivors of the Armenian Genocide settled in the area. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became one of the fifteen republics in the Soviet Union. In fifty years, Yerevan was transformed from a town of a few thousand residents within the Russian Empire, to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial center, as well as becoming the seat of national government. In 2009, the population of Yerevan was estimated to be 1,119,000 people with the agglomeration around the city regrouping 1,245,700 people (2007 official estimate), more than a third of all the population of Armenia.

Yerevan is named as the 2012 World Book Capital by the UNESCO.

One theory regarding the origin of Yerevan's name is the city was named after the Armenian king, Yervand IV (the Last), the last leader of the Orontid Dynasty, and founder of the city of Yervandashat.However, it is likely that the city's name is derived from the Urartian military fortress of Erebuni (Էրեբունի), which was founded on the territory of modern-day Yerevan in 782 BC by Argishti I. As elements of the Urartian language blended with that of the Armenian one, the name eventually evolved into Yerevan (Erebuni = Erevani = Erevan = Yerevan). In Armenian manuscripts, Yerevan was also mentioned as Erevan, Erewan, Ervan, Eruan, Arevan, Iravan and Ayravan.

The principal symbol of Yerevan is Mount Ararat, which is visible from any area in the capital. The seal of the city is a crowned lion on a pedestal with the inscription "Yerevan." The lion's head is turned backwards while it holds a scepter using the right front leg, the attribute of power and royalty. The symbol of eternity is on the breast of the lion with a picture of Ararat in the upper part. The emblem is a rectangular shield with a blue border.

On 27 September 2004, Yerevan adopted a hymn, "Erebuni-Yerevan", written by Paruyr Sevak and composed by Edgar Hovhanissian. It was selected in a competition for a new hymn and new flag that would best represent the city. The chosen flag has a white background with the city's seal in the middle, surrounded by twelve small red triangles that symbolize the twelve historic capitals of Armenia. The flag includes the three colours of the Armenian National flag. The lion is portrayed on the orange background with blue edging.

Katya Ryabova will represent Russia in JESC 2011

Katya Ryabova was born on 4th of August, 1997. She represented Russia in Junior Eurovision 2009 in Kiev with the song Malenkiy Prints (Little Prince) .She got the second place and she got the same total points with Luara Hayrapetyan from Armenia.

In 2011 she took part in the National Final of Junior Eurovision again and won with the song Kak Romeo i Dzhulyetta. (Like Romeo and Juliet) and will represent Russia in Junior Eurovision 2011 which will be in the capital of Armenia -Yerevan. Katya is the first JESC star that is going to represent her country second time. Her many European fans are waiting for seeing her on JESC stage again. Will she win this time like Dima Bilan did taking part in ESC second time? We will know only on 3 of December !

He has recorted 3 songs. He shot in video clips. Shotiko had lessons in Basti Bubu Studio. He plays guitar and studies piano. He dances Hip-Hop. His biggest achievement was, when he became SMS leader in the program "Formula of Success" of Georgian Public Broadcaster. Shotiko already took part in Junior Eurovision 2008 preselection, as a member of the group "Krimanchuli".

Demirchyan Arena or simply HAMALIR

On 3 December 2011, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will be held in the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex , also known as Demirchyan Arena, Sports & Music Complex, SCC or simply Hamalir.

The SCC was put in commission in 1983. Later it was named after Karen Demirchyan. The projecting of the building was made by the «Armstateproject» and by the USSR National architect Korjun Akopyan, the ASSR National architect Arthur Tarhanyan, the ASSR Honoured architects Hrachya Pogosyan, Spartak Khachikyan, Gurgen Mushegyan, engineers Igor Tsaturyan, Grigor Azizyan, Mikael Aharonyan, sculptor Ferdinant Arakelyan in particular. In 1987 this group has been awarded the higher prize of the country – the State award of USSR for the original architecture and planning solutions.

The complex has a unique design, an outside view of the whole construction reminds the shape a big bird opening its wings. Its architectural concepts include a turning tribune seating 1200, which can rapidly connect the two big halls to reveal additional seating. The sports-concert complex is a wonderful architectural construction which is in the centre of park Tsitsernakaberd. SCC is an embodiment of human dream and imagination. Complex possibilities are diverse, and the quantity of given services grows every day.

According to the decision of the Armenian government the sport concert complex was sold to Russian company«BAMO». The company has invested more than 40 milion for the reconstruction, repair and equipment of the complex. Thanks to the repair works and reconstruction the complex was equipped and supplied with modern security, heating, ventilation, communication, audio and video systems. Today the SCC, reconstructed, completely repaired and equipped wth modern techniques offers various kinds of entertainment: concerts, shows, sport championships, scientific meetings, exhibitions, conferences and meetings.

Famous artists such as Michel Legrand, Demis Rusos, the «La Scala» theatre symphonic orchestra, Tomas Anders, Bonnie M and Jean Gillan have performed on the stage of SCC. Here were held the international Olympic Chess Games, the European championship of ushu, the Armenian basketball games, the international sports struggle, boxing, weightlifting, art gymnastics and acrobatics tournaments and championships.

The place of JESC 2011

This year JESC will be held in Yerevan, Armenia. But what you know about this country? So I'll introduce you my country step by step. And the first step will be the History.

Armenian history is very long and full of events.Besides, it is interesting and emotionally rich.. Because of all these let's study the history of Armenia by periods since ancient times.

Ancient Armenia (3500 BC - 520 BC)

Armenia is one of the oldest countries in the world with a recorded history of about 3500 years. The oldest known ancestors of modern Armenians, the Hayasa-Azzi tribes, also known as Proto-Armenians, were indigenous to the Armenian Highland in Eastern Anatolia. These tribes formed the Nairi tribal union, which existed until late 13th century BC. The legendary forefather of Armenians, Hayk, famous for his battles with Babylonian ruler Bel, most likely was one of the Hayasa tribal leaders. The words 'Nairi' and 'Nairian' are still used by Armenians as poetic synonyms of the words 'Armenia' and 'Armenian'.

At the end of the second millennium BC, another Indo-European ethnic group, closely related to Thracians and Phrygians and referred to by the Greeks as Armens, migrated to the Armenian Highland from Northern Balkans. According to a Greek myth, which actually reflects this tribal migration, the forefather of Armenians - Armenios - was one of the Argonauts, accompanying Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece. In the year 1115 BC, king Tiglath Pileser I of Assyria reports a battle with a force of 20,000 Armens in the Gadmokh province of Assyria.

The mixture of Armens with the indigenous Hayasa eventually produced the Armenian people as it is known today. The existence of two major segments in the Armenian people is best of all illustrated by the fact that Armenians call themselves "Hay" and their country "Hayastan" after Hayasa, while other peoples call them Armenians and their country Armenia after the Armens. The Armenian language is basically the language of Armens, which is the only survivor of the now extinct Thraco-Phrygian group. It incorporated a large number of Hayasa words and grammatical features, as well as a significant number of non-Indo-European words from minor ethnic groups, which also took part in the ethnogenesis of Armenians.

The first significant state of the Armenian Highland was the highly advanced Kingdom of Ararat (with the capital in Tushpa, today's Van), better known under its Assyrian name Urartu (Ararat). This state was formed in the XI century BC and existed until VII century BC. Although populated mostly by Armenians, Urartu was ruled (at least during the first centuries) by a non-Armenian and non-Indo-European dynasty. In 782 BC the Urartian king Argishti I founded the fortified city of Erebuni, which is today's Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Another major city in the Valley of Ararat was Argishti-khinili, also founded by Argishti I in the year 775 BC.

In the late VII century BC Urartu, weakened by Scythian invasions, fell, but after several decades was revived under the Armenian Yervanduni (the Orontides) dynasty with the capital in Armavir, former Argishti-khinili. The revived kingdom was already called Armenia by its neighbours, but in some languages the older name, Urartu, was still in use. In the famous tri-lingual Behistun inscription of Persian king Darius the Great (522-486) the same country is referred to as 'Armenia' in the Persian and Elamite versions, and 'Urartu' in the Akkadian version.

Artashisian dynasty, First Armenian Kingdom

Armenia under the Yervanduni dynasty soon became a satrapy of the mighty Achemenide Persia, and later part of the Seleucid Empire. It restored its full independence in 190 BC under the king Artashes I, founder of the Artashesian dynasty (the Artaxiads).

The kingdom started to expand and reached its peak during the reign of Tigran II, also called Tigran the Great (95-55 BC). Under Tigran, Armenia ascended to a pinnacle of power unique in its history and became the strongest state in Asia Minor. Extensive territories were taken from Parthia, which was compelled to sign a treaty of alliance. Iberia (Georgia), Caucasian Albania, and Atropatene had already accepted Tigran' suzerainty when the Syrians offered him their crown (83 BC). Tigran penetrated as far south as Ptolemais (modern Akko in Israel). As a result, the empire of Tigran II stretched from the Caspian Sea in the East to the Mediterranean Sea in West, and from Mesopotamia in the South to the river Kura in North. Political strengthening and territorial expansion of Armenia was accompanied also by unprecedented cultural development, with rich cultural heritage of Urartu intermixing with Hellenistic features. As a result Armenia during the Artashesian period became one of the most Hellenized and culturally advanced countries of Asia Minor.

After the death of Tigran II, Armenia was reduced back to its ethnic Armenian territory and found itself in the middle of a long war campaign between Rome and Persia, with each superpower trying to have Armenia as its ally, as the military assistance with Armenia was crucial for gaining political superiority in Asia Minor.

Arshakunian dynasty, Second Armenian Kingdom

In the middle of the I century AD a new royal dynasty - the Arshakuni (the Arsacids) - was established in Armenia. This dynasty was related to the royal family of Persia, which bared the same family name. At this period Armenia and Persia enjoyed a long period of peace and cooperation, until in 251 AD the Sassanid dynasty came to power in Persia. Regarding Armenia as the ally of the overthrown dynasty, the Sassanids adopted anti-Armenian policy, trying to eliminate the Armenian state and to assimilate the Armenian nation. Since the Armenian religion of that period bared similarities to both Zoroastrianism and Greco-Roman polytheism, in the realization of their anti-Armenian policy the Sassanids were trying to capitalize on the religious closeness. In order to deprive the Persians of this advantage, the Armenian king Trdat III in 301 AD declared Christianity the state religion of Armenia, thus making Armenia the first Christian state in the world, with Gregory the Illuminator as the first head (Catholicos) of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Christianity was officially legalized in the Roman Empire 12 years after Armenia became officially Christian.

Bagratunian dynasty, Third Armenian Kingdom

After more than two centuries of struggle with the Arab Caliphate, Armenia regained its independence in 886, and both the Caliphate and Constantinople recognized prince Ashot Bagratuni as the king of Armenia. During the rule of the Bagratuni dynasty Armenia reached its peak in political, social and cultural development. The capital of Armenia of that period, Ani, was a magnificent city, known as "a city of one thousand and one churches". The Armenian architecture of the Bagratuni period, especially the dome laying techniques, for which Armenian architects were notorious, significantly influenced the Byzantine and European architectural styles.

At the end of the 10th century the Byzantine Empire, although ruled by an imperial dynasty of Armenian origin, adopted a near-sighted policy of weakening Armenia and eventually annexed it in 1045, thus depriving itself of an effective shield against disastrous invasion of Turkic nomads from Central Asia.

Rubinian dynasty, Fourth Armenian Kingdom

Before the fall of the Bagratuni kingdom a number of Armenian princes managed to escape from Armenia and found refuge in Cilicia, a region at the north-eastern corner of the Mediterranean Sea, where Armenians were the majority of population. In 1080 their leader, prince Ruben, founded in Cilicia a new kingdom, which became known as Cilician Armenia, or Armenia Minor (Little Armenia). The new Armenian state established very close relations with European countries and played a very important role during the Crusades, providing the Christian armies a safe heaven and provision on their way towards Jerusalem. Intermarriage with European crusading families was common, and European religious, political, and cultural influence was strong. The royal court of Cilicia and the kingdom itself were reformed on Western models, and many French terms entered the Armenian language. Cilician Armenia also played an important role in the trade of the Venetians and Genoese with the East.

Enduring constant attacks by the Turks, Mongols, Egyptians and Byzantines, Cilician Armenia survived for three centuries and fell to Egyptian Mameluks in 1375. The last Armenian king of Cilicia, Levon VI Lousinian, emigrated to France, where his grave still can be seen in the St. Denis Cathedral of Paris. The title "King of Armenia" passed to the kings of Cyprus, thence to the Venetians, and was later claimed by the house of Savoy.

Restoration of Independent Armenia

Armenia restored its full independence on September 21, 1991, and became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992. On January 25, 2001, Armenia also became a member of the Council of Europe.

Vladimir Arzumanyan was born on May 26, 1998 in Stepanakert (Nagorno Karabakh) in a family of musical teachers. He studies currently at school and attends the Lyceum of Arts or the musical studies. Vladimir also possesses the brown belt in karate and plays football.

He sings from the age of 6, the time when his mother noticed his musical talent. The variety of songs that he performs allowed him to take part in the musical festivals and competitions both at homeland and abroad.
The summer of 2010 was marked with the 3rd place in New Wave Junior competition and brought lots of popularity among the youngsters in Armenia. Vladimir performs songs in Armenian, Russian, English and Italian and dreams about singing a duet with his favourite singer ever Stevie Wonder.

Vladimir dreams about becoming a singing President of a Football Club and believes he lives in the age of "time machine" invention!

The Winner of JESC 2009

Ralf Mackenbach (born 4 October 1995 in Best, The Netherlands) is a Dutch singer, dancer and musical artist who won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Kiev, Ukraine on 21 November 2009 with 121 points with the song Click Clack which he wrote himself.

Mackenbach has been attending Amsterdam's dancing academy Lucia Marthas since 2009. He played the little Tarzan in the musical Tarzan and Jakopje in the musical Beauty and the Beast. The official video for Click clack, shows he is left-handed. He's also born in Best, and still lives there. He's getting acting lessons at CKE (centrum voor de kunsten eindhoven) in eindhoven.

The Winner of JESC 2008

Bzikebi is a musical group from Georgia consisting of a boy called Giorgi Shiolashvili and two girls named Mariam Kikuashvili and Mariam Tatulashvili, all ten years old during the contest.Giorgi likes to play the piano. He became famous after a song contest called "ANA-BANA" where from 1300 participants he was the second. Mariam started singing at the age of 5. Mariam and Giorgi became friends during "ANA-BANA" song contest. The other Mariam likes cartoons. She dreams to be famous and sing with one of Georgian famous singers!

They won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Lemesos, Cyprus on November 22, 2008 with their song "Bzz...".During their performance they were dressed in outfits with black and yellow stripes resembling bees and they sang in a made-up language.They won the competition with a total of 154 points.

The Winner of JESC 2007

Aliaksei was born in Minsk on the 18th April 1996. He lives in Minsk. He began to sing at the age of 5 and at 6, he entered a musical school in Minsk where he has been practicing piano. Some famous Belarusian singers were his singing instructors. At 10 Alexei began to take part in some performances of National Musical Theatre. Also Aliaksei participates in children vocal group Veryasyata.

Since he was 9, Alexei has written songs. He is a prize-winner of several international musical contests in Belarus, Italy and Bulgaria. Aliaksei considers the Junior Eurovision Song Contest one of the most popular contests where one can prove himself and make his country proud! He participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 and won with one point more than the Armenian runner up. He sang the song S druz'yami ("With Friends"). It was a song with a fast tempo and energetic dancing. He wrote this song himself. He was the second winner of this contest from Belarus, after Ksenia Sitnik (2005).

The Winner of JESC 2006

Masha and Nastya Tolmachevy were born on January 14th 1997. From the age of 6 the girls have been studying in the pop music studio "sverchok". At home, the twins started to sing at the age of 4. The musical tastes of the twins differ from each other. Masha prefers "Larisa Dolina" and "Alla Pugachova" whilst Nastya prefers "Whitney Houston" and "Sarah Connor".

At the age of nine, they won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Bucharest, Romania, with their song Vesenniy jazz. Their song was selected from amongst the 200 singers and bands around Russia that participated in the national selection competition. They received 154 points, beating Belarus that got 129 points.

Not long after the contest in 2007, the sisters appeared in a musical called "The kingdom of crooked mirrors". The twins appeared in the opening act of the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 on 12 May.

The twins released an album called Polovinki in 2007, and have appeared in a made-for-TV movie in Russia.

The Winner of JESC 2005

Ksenia Sitnik was born on 15 May 1995 in the city of Mazyr, Belarus. Ksenia has an older sister named Nastya who herself has participated in children's song competitions. Ksenia currently lives with her family in the city of Minsk, Belarus.

She started her singing career at a very early age. She has participated in many vocal contests such as the festival Falling Stars in Nowa Ruda, Poland and The Golden Bee festival in Klimovichy, Belarus, both at the age of nine in the year 2004. Ksenia won first prize at the international children's contest at the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, Belarus in July 2005 and the same year also competed in The Star Light festival in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Ksenia Sitnik won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, where she represented her home country, Belarus, with the song My Vmeste. Despite the song not being particularly popular in pre-contest polls: for example, in the Europrediction poll, Ksenia came last with no points.Ksenia won, albeit narrowly - she had only three points more than the runner-up, Antonio José from Spain.

In November, 2006 Ksenia released a CD with accompanying music book called My Vmeste ("We Are Together"). She has released three music videos: Malenkiy Korablik ("Little Ship") in 2006, Prostaya Pesenka ("Simple Song") in 2007 and, most recently, Non-stop in 2009 .

Spanish child pop star Maria Isabel was born Maria Isabel López Rodriguez in Andalusia, Spain, in 1995, and took an immediate interest in both singing and dancing.

In 2004, Maria Isabel won the 2004 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (after having won the Spanish one) with “Antes Muerta Que Sentilla,” a track that was also included in her 2005 debut album, No Me Toques las Palmas Que Me Conozco. The album did well enough in Spain to be released in Latin America, where it also found a fair amount of success. Maria Isabel began her first tour of Latin America and the United States after the album's release. Her song has become a charttopper in Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico and other places. In April 2005, she was interviewed on American national television for the first time, when she attended Univision's "El Gordo y La Flaca and spoke with Lily Estefan and Raul De Molina.

Her second album is called Número 2 and includes the hit Pues Va A Ser Que No and En Mi Jardin from the Barbie movie in Spanish Barbie Y La Magia De Pegaso. Her third album Capricornio was released on November 21, 2006 and has so far been a huge success, it is a double CD which also includes a DVD with all of her videoclips and extras. Her fourth studio album, a collection of the songs used in her first movie, Ángeles SA. and the release date for one of the songs, "Cuándo No Estás", is to be confirmed. Due to management and release problems, Ángeles SA entered the Spanish charts at number 35, however in the week commencing 20/12, it has since peaked at number 11, certifying it gold.

The Winner of JESC 2003

The winner of JESC 2003 was Dino Jelusić. who is a young Croatian singer, musician and songwriter. He was the winner of the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2003 (JESC), which took place in Copenhagen on November 15, 2003. Dino was born in Požega (Slavonia), on June 4th 1992 and now lives in Zagreb with his parents, his younger sister Lorena and the toddler Bruno.

At the JESC he sang "Ti si moja prva ljubav" ("You are my first love") and obtained 134 points. The English version of the song is titled "You Are My One and Only". The performance included playing the piano and dancing as well as singing.

Dino is also famous for his popular album release, mainly successful in home country, Croatia. The album, known as No.1 is popular amongst the younger people in Europe, but his success has made it even more popular. Dino is currently planning the release of his 2nd Album (August 2006)which looks to be delayed. Dino has performed since he was very young, appearing in a lot of stages and festivals from 1998. His breakthrough however, was his appearance on Croatian television's Turbo Limach show for children ("Lima,," is Zagreb youth slang for Mali - "little one"), when he was only about 7 years old. Besides his native Croatia, he has performed in cities like Cairo (Egypt), Figueira da Foz (Portugal), Alicante (Spain), Bucharest (Romania), Rimini (Italy) or Kaunas (Lithuania) before going to Copenhagen. Dino also appears frequently on Croatian radio and TV as a special guest for popular stations.

He has already had his first full length concert held in the Zagreb ,,alata stadium in September 2004, gathering 6000 fans. In the same year and in the beginning of 2005 he went on a multi-city tour in Australia, entertaining Croatian communities in Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. In June 2005, Dino performed as a guest star at the Langeland Music Festival in Denmark — the same country in which he had won the JESC two years earlier.

The History of Junior Eurovision Song Contest

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is a contest held annually for children aged between 10 and 15 (8 and 15 between 2003 and 2006). But how did the JESC start??

The origins of the contest date back to 2000 when DR(first name-Danmarks Radio) held a song contest for Danish children that year and the following year. The idea was extended to a Scandinavian song festival in 2002, with Denmark, Norway and Sweden as participants. The EBU picked up the idea for a song contest featuring children and opened the competition to all EBU member broadcasters making it a pan-European event. The working title of the programme was "Eurovision Song Contest for Children",branded with the name of the EBU's already popular song competition, the Eurovision Song Contest. Denmark was asked to host the first programme after their experience with their own contests.

After a successful first contest, the second faced several location problems. The event originally should have been organised by British broadcaster ITV in Manchester. ITV then announced that due to financial and scheduling reasons, the contest would not take place in the United Kingdom after all. stepped in to host the contest in The EBU approached Croatian broadcaster HRT, who had won the previous contest, to stage the event in Zagreb;though it later emerged that HRT had 'forgotten' to book the venue in which the contest would have taken place.It was at this point, with five months remaining until the event would be held, that Norwegian broadcaster NRK Lillehammer.
